From One Beehive to 600 — and Counting.
Some of the best things in life start as a joke.
Isabella gifted John a beehive for his birthday — a single colony of bees placed on the balcony of their home in Marathon, Florida. Neither of them planned to become beekeepers. But that hive produced over 200 pounds of honey in its first year, the neighbors couldn't stop talking about it, and just like that, something bigger had begun.
It wasn't by accident. John had learned to handle bees and extract honey as a child, growing up alongside his English family. Isabella's Venezuelan and Colombian roots ran just as deep — her grandparents lived close to the land and passed down a deep respect for what nature provides when you leave it alone. When the two of them landed in the Florida Keys on the verge of retirement, they noticed something troubling: bees were disappearing from their community. They decided to do something about it.
What started on a balcony became a business. Neighbors became customers. A kitchen overflowing with honey became a partnership with Milam's Market — their first grocery store, made possible through a recommendation from a trusted friend who believed in their integrity as much as their product. From there, Keez Beez found its way into Winn-Dixie, Publix, the Ritz Carlton, and beyond.
John passed away before seeing just how far that birthday beehive would reach — but his knowledge, his care, and his love for the craft are in every jar. Isabella continues to carry that forward with the same passion that started it all. Today, over 600 hives across South Florida, Keez Beez isn't just a honey brand. It's a living commitment to the bees, the land, and the belief that if you work hard and stay true to your purpose, something real will grow.
